About Us - A Brief History

Tehama started life some 600,000 years ago. It is an eroded andesitic stratovolcano located in the Shasta Cascade part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the Cascade Range in Northern California [Ref Wikipedia].

1991 - 1995 San Francisco Telecom

The founding partners of Tehama Wireless Design Group Inc. have been working together for over 20 years. In 1991 they founded together their first electronics design consulting company called San Francisco Telecom (SFT). SFT developed many wireless and communications products for its customers. The designs ranged from complete spread spectrum cordless telephone products to integrated circuits for communications.

The integrated circuits developed by SFT included a Spread Spectrum Burst Mode Controller IC, a Digital Phase Locked Loop De-Jitter IC for T1 and E1 rate data transmission, a low overhead Read Solomon Forward Error Correction IC and an E Rate Multiplexer IC.

1996 - 2003 Level One Communications/Intel

In 1996 San Francisco Telecom was sold to Level One Communications, which in turn became part of Intel in 2000. The SFT group within Level One was chartered with developing both Sonet/SDH/PDH multiplexing products and wireless integrated circuits.

The SFT group at Level One developed the industry's first production ready wireless CMOS transceiver ushering in the era of RFCMOS. Wireless IC's for digital spread spectrum cordless telephones operating in the 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz ISM bands were developed. Over 40 models of Panasonics' High End Cordless telephones utilized those products. Here is an industry paper authored by SFT engineers describing their ground breaking 900 MHz Spread Spectrum Integrated Circuit.

2003 - present Tehama Wireless Design Group

In 2003 we started Tehama Wireless Design Group to get back to what we do best: electronics and electronic product design in a small company environment. Since then we've been consulting on design projects for a variety of clients as well developing our own wireless meter reading products.
